2 autographed MUSICAL MANUSCRIPTS, 1871-1872; in-fol. (35.5 x 27.5 cm) Two religious choruses composed during exile in London. Sing praises unto the Lord ? an Anthem with chorus, quartett soli and organ [CG 291], published by Novello in May 1871 (Condé p. 872). Title and 10 pages. Signed and dated at the end "London, april /71", and on the title page "London, May 1871". It includes three numbers: No. 1 Chorus: "Sing praises unto the Lord"..., Allegro maëstoso; No. 2 Quartett (Soli): "For His wrath endureth"..., Moderato; No. 3 Récit and Chorus: "O my God"..., Allegro maestoso. The title page bears the dedication: "To Mr. J. Goss, organist of St. Paul's". Vexilla Regis prodeunt. Catholic Hymn. Harmonized by Charles Gounod [CG 151], for 4 mixed voices and organ (Condé p. 822), [December ? 1872]. Title and 3 pages (cut out for engraving and reattached). Marked Moderato maestoso, this hymn is composed on the Latin text; Gounod added the English text in blue pencil: "O praise the Lord"...
