17 autograph MANUSCRITS, 2 signed, [1862-1873 and n.d.]; about 70 pages in-8 or in-4. Manuscript of a play in verse, and set of poems. La Paix dans le ménage, [1881], "proverb in one act and in verse," preceded by an "Epitre, en vers, à Émile Augier" (26 p. in-4); "a painter (Henri) complains of being constantly disturbed and upset by his wife Léonie, who is jealous and always has her say on everything; he would like to be obeyed, but the secret of peace is tolerance and kindness... The alexandrines are nicely turned and some piquant details have the look of life" (Condé p. 211). On the last page, Émile AUGIER has noted in pencil some remarks and criticisms. La Fourmi (fable) : " Une fourmi venait de se charger "..., [Naples May 1862] (2 p. in-4, signed). "Beautifully turned in irregular verse, this fable extols the obstinacy of insects overcoming immense obstacles that would have discouraged humans" (Condé p. 114). - "Of Clapisson Heaven has reserved the place for me"... [May 1866] (2 p. obl. in-8 in pencil), on his election to the Institute, "caustic poem celebrating his triumph over David, Massé, Maillart and Elwart" (Condé p. 139). - Unum necessarium ? When I ask you, O my God? nothing for me"... (1872, in pencil and ink by Georgina Weldon). - The Mole and the Foxes. Apologue in free verse on the misfortunes of Artistic Property (notebook of 14 p. in-4, 304 lines), [1872-1874]. - Imprécation: "Come? let us curse everything! - Let us curse Nature"..., [August 1873] (2 p. in-4; Condé p. 179). - Le Vase et le Parfum: "Un jeune homme et un vieillard s'étaient arrêtés"... (4 p. in-4), moral tale in verse. - "How did pure gold change into vile lead?"... (1 p. in-8). - "Well? I have read them, poet, your Blasphemies?"...
