2 autograph MUSICAL MANUSCRIPTS, the 1st signed "Charles Gounod", Fugues et Contrepoint, and Contrepoint, [1836]; 2 small folio notebooks of 68 and 66 pages (31.5 x 24 cm, title sheet of the 1st detached and a little soiled). Rare evidence of the musical apprenticeship of the young Gounod, aged eighteen. Fugues and Counterpoint (signed " Charles Gounod "). Four fugues in 4 parts, with analyses; one bears the indication: " done in one day May 1836 ". Numerous singing exercises given, counterpoint, flowery counterpoint, 2-part fugues, etc. Scratches and corrections. In the margin of the first fugue, autograph remarks of his teacher Anton REICHA: " a part after having counted a certain number of pauses cannot return by a simple accomp. It must enunciate either by doing the subject or by imitating another part that preceded it. [...] Syncopation with a shorter value should be avoided as much as possible. Counterpoint. Numerous counterpoint exercises with 3, 4 or 5 parts, florid counterpoints with up to 8 parts (in 2 choruses), double counterpoints, imitations... Ratures and corrections. Two notebooks in the hand of Victoire Gounod, who accompanied her son during the lessons at Reicha's, with numerous musical examples are attached: 2nd notebook of Charles: " Chromatic scales or fragments of these scales also belong to the passing notes when one executes with enough speed.
