CHOPIN Frédéric (1810-1849).
L.A.S. "Ch.", followed by a L.A.S. "LJ" from his sister, Louise JENDRZEJEWICZ, [Paris 24 Aug. 1849], to Mlle Marie de ROZIERES, at Chaudfontaine, near Liège; 1 1/2 pages in-8, address with postmarks (some light foxing). One of the composer's last letters, addressed to his former pupil and assistant. "My sister and Jendrz. and my niece have been with me for 5 days. I am very tired. So are they. I wish you as much happiness as I have at this time with a little more health as I am weaker than ever. Your sincere friend"... In a postscript, he sends his "tributes to M e Gr. de Baulin" [Mme Grille de Beuzelin]... Louise takes up the pen: "So I am here with our dearest Frédéric who is very ill, and I regret very much not being able to embrace you, my dear and good friend. I would have stopped at Chaudfontaine if the convoy had not spent the night there - I thought about it, for it would have been an inexpressible pleasure to see you there. Besides, you know how much we love you, so there is no need to tell you how much we regret having our project thwarted. - I would be delighted to see you in Paris where we often speak of you, dear friend. - You would not believe how much I would like your arrival to give some good moments to dear Brother who is very tired today, and more than the other days by insomnia and his fits. - Louise has pleased him enough...
