Declaration of the use of the graphometer, by the practice of which one can measure all distances of things of note which will be able to be seen and discerned from the place where it will be posed; and to survey lands, woods, meadows, and to make plans of cities, fortress, geographical maps and generally all visible measurements, and this without reigle of arithmetic. Invented newly and brought to light by Philippe Danfrie. Paris, Danfrie, 1597, in-12, 91 pp. - 1p.bl., - 34 pp. - 1 f. (privilege), full paper, set in a vellum binding, trace of laces, spotting on the 1st plate (binding pending). FIRST EDITION of one of the most beautiful scientific books of the 16th century, printed in civil type. With 18 engravings, most of them full-page (14 engraved on copper and 4 on wood). Handwritten annotations on the title page. Jointly with a few flying additions. A few stains and pale freckles. Brunet 2, P. 485: "Curious work".
