de BEAUPRE Guy
OFFICIAL TRIP OF TSAR NICOLAS II (1868-1918) TO FRANCE. Autograph letter signed "Guy de Beaupré", addressed to his grandfather, Gustave de Reiset (1821-1905), dated October 10, 1896, 3 pages, folio, text in French. Interesting letter in which the author evokes the great moments of the visit of the tsar to Paris from October 5 to 9, 1896. Text: "Journey of Tsar Nicholas II to France, October 5, 1896. To my dear Bon Papa of Reiset, I went, with my grandparents of Reiset, my father and my mother, to see the arrival of the tsar of Russia in Paris, at the home of the Baroness of Mesnil, who had invited us to lunch. The autocrat emperor of all the Russias is today the only ally of France and it is as a friend that the whole country received him and celebrated him. From dawn the soldiers formed a hedge of honor on his passage, from the Muette station, to the Russian embassy where he was staying. The Czarina accompanied him and also their only child, the Grand Duchess Olga, who had been sent to sleep and rest from this long journey, for she was not yet a year old. The appearance of the Champs-Elysées was superb, every house was decorated with flags in the national colours of both countries, and a huge crowd on all the balconies, in the windows and in the streets cheered them as they passed. As soon as the procession appeared, the repeated cries of "Long live the Tsar, long live Russia" were heard joyfully from all sides and nothing untoward came to disturb this 1st day of joy! The second day was used to lay the first stone of a bridge which will bear the name of Alexander III in memory of the father of the current sovereign. After this ceremony, the emperor attended a session of the Academy and went to the mint, where a medal was struck in his honour. A walk in post, in Versailles occupied the 3rd day. Attached is a birth announcement in the name of Guy de Beaupré, dated 13 October 1885, with envelope. Stains, folds.
