Armand GUILLAUMIN (1841-1927)
Le moulin de la Folie sur la Sédelle, 1923. Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. 79 x 92 cm. Repainted, cracks and small lacks. Oil on canvas, signed lower right. 31.1 x 36.2 in. From 1893 onwards, Armand Guillaumin, who was a full member of the Impressionist movement and its exhibitions, settled in the village of Crozant (Creuse). The village, the rivers Creuse and Sedelle and the Limousin valleys become his incessantly repeated motifs. The originality of Guillaumin is to raise the colours in intensity from the mid 1890s (in application of Gauguin's lesson a few years earlier), anticipating the Fauvist revolution which broke out in the first years of the 20th century.
