Jean-Baptiste LALLEMAND (Dijon 1716- Paris 1803)
Piazza Mattei in Rome with the Tartarughe Fountain and Palazzo Mattei. Black stone, pen, black ink, grey and brown ink wash. Glued on leaf. 26.2 x 34.8 cm. Small stitches and stains. Provenance: 1- London, Christie's, Thomas Bruce Collection, 7th Earl of Elgin, July 10, 1962, catalogue no. 106; 2- London, Agnew Gallery; 3- Private collection (England). Exhibition: London, Thos Agnew and sons, October 1963, Rome and the Campana: Drawings by J. B Lallemand, no. 18. Twenty-two drawings from Lord Elgin's collection were included in this exhibition. Palazzo Mattei, dating from the mid-16th century, was built by Piero Antonio Mattei for his sons; the Tartarughe Fountain was built on the drawings of Giacomo della Porta in 1581-1584.
