Ambroise Vollard, enriched with an oil painting by Rouault, the model and proofs of essays. 17 original etchings, aquatints, in colours out of text by
Georges Rouault, all but one signed with the monogram and dated 1935 or 1936 in the plate, and 81 woodcuts by Georges Aubert after Rouault (Skira 317, Boston 272).
A single copy of Ambroise Vollard's last book, printed for him with the supporting document, complete with the suite in black on Montval of the 17 etchings printed in 40 copies. The copy is increased by an original oil on paper, composition whose subject is taken again in
Passion for the Calvary of the Atheists, with a certificate of Isabelle Rouault (of the collection
It is also enriched with the typographical model of the text by André Suarès, proofs and trial prints of Rouault's
plates staggered from 1932 to 1939 (460 x 335 mm, in titled cloth embossing).
The set contains the following items:
- A proof signed by Vollard of the corrected title page, with a wood, glued on Montval, and the page of the forgery and the proof; - A series of 10 double or single proofs on Montval of the title page and the false title, from 1933 to 1939, with handwritten corrections by the printer (Aimé, then Henri Jourde), 5 of these proofs being annotated "bon à tirer" by Vollard, with the final proof of the finished print on plain paper with numerous handwritten corrections (notably the date "March 15, 1938", then "March 2, 1939", when the book was finally printed two weeks earlier on February 29, 1939); - Vollard's signed press proof of the table of horstexts on Montval; - Trial proofs of eight colour
