MONET Claude (1840-1926)
Signed autograph letter addressed to Mr ASTRUC Argenteuil, May 27 [18]75, 2 pages in-8 in ink, envelope kept. (Tear on one page. Text preserved). "Sir, you are going to have a very sad opinion of the state of my affairs, but I am in the impossibility to pay your note (300 francs) [...]. Letter in which he refers to serious financial problems and numerous debts that he is unable to repay. He will not be able to pay him immediately and is counting on his patience and leniency. His financial problems continued for several more years, despite his great success and his status as "indisputable leader of the Impressionist group" (in the words of Émile Zola).
