MAGRITTE René (1898-1967) - Lot 295
MAGRITTE René (1898-1967) Signed autograph letter addressed to Pierre Louis FLOUQUET, illustrated with an original drawing Brussels, November 1, 1921, 2 pages in-4 in ink on letterhead, drawing in ink and wash. Intimate letter addressed to Pierre Louis Flouquet, Belgian painter and poet who shared a studio with Magritte. About his wife: "[...] For some time now I have been looking for a situation, I think I have found it: I have been well provided with drawings that I had feverishly composed and executed in watercolour. Last Friday and Saturday I went to the wallpaper factory in Haren. I was received by a man with a big beard who examined my drawings which seemed to please him [...] And Georgette, I love her, will I always love her? I'm afraid that one day I won't love her anymore because I'll be nostalgic for her pink colours, for her so brave eyes ". An original drawing by Magritte in the wash at the end of the letter illustrates this sentence: "[...] I hope to be able to paint a canvas, a man who is afraid".
