JACOB MAX (1876-1944) - PICASSO PABLO (1881-1973) Chronicle of Heroic Times Exceptional and unique copy printed especially for the publisher on Japon Paris, Louis Broder, 1956. In-8. Full garnet morocco, fully decorated on the plates and smooth spine with black fillets depicting geometric cross patterns, double black net frame; black net checkered boxes, names and title in gold lettering; navy blue morocco linings, black net frame; sky blue silk endpapers; gold edges on witnesses. Garnet morocco shirt with flaps, gilt title, bordered case. Covers filled with Montval laid paper, illustrated with an original lithograph by Picasso in red and black on covers and spine (Lined binding, Semet & Plumelle, (1960)). Original edition of this Chronicle written by Max Jacob in 1936 and 1937 and published for the 80th anniversary of his birth. Limited edition of 170 copies on Montval signed by Picasso. The frontispiece and the three drypoints reworked by hand by the artist who coloured them in different colours; - A numbered 2/2 sequence of the frontispiece and the three drypoints, signed by the artist; - The sequence of the frontispiece and the 24 woodcuts on Montval laid paper (not justified). Copy enriched with an important original drawing, in two colours, signed by Picasso, representing Max Jacob writing. Drawing dated "Cannes, 14.1.57" and dedicated "for Louis Broder", executed in red and blue pencils. Cramer, 78 (does not indicate this suite numbered on 2 of the lithograph and drypoints, undoubtedly reserved for the artist and the publisher). The meeting of Max Jacob, when he was only twenty years old, was decisive in Picasso's life. He shared his room on Boulevard Voltaire before settling at the Bateau Lavoir in Montmartre, where Max Jacob followed him. Max Jacob introduced the young Spanish painter to culture and was his ardent defender. Exceptional copy of the publisher Louis Broder.
