CHAGALL Marc (1887-1985)
Signed autograph letter addressed to Jacques PRÉVERT Les Collines, Vence, May 27, 1950, 1 page in-4 in ink on letterhead, typewritten envelope. "My dear friend. When I read your moving poem for Boccaccio (Verve) it seemed to me that I saw you and that I spoke with you. What a poem! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I can't wait to see you and tell you how touched I am...". [It is the poem "In those days... "published in Verve: Tales of Boccaccio, No. 24, a reproduction of miniatures from a manuscript of Boccaccio's Decameron punctuated with Chagall's wash; the poem will be published in Spectacle]. It evokes Prévert's stay in his house in Orgeval "[...] in a difficult time. I find it very hard to know that you have so many worries.
