CHAGALL Marc (1887-1985)
"Reclining nude", original drawing addressed to Madame M. COQUIOT (in Paris) Berlin, 1930, pen and nib on postcard from the Hotel Eden am Zoo, under frame. The nude seems to float above the sofa, with flowers in the hair. More flowers also hover to the right of the composition. Unlike Dalí or Magritte, whose surrealist compositions depict the fantastic elements of dreams, Chagall transcribes their private and personal character in a universal way. It is his masterful ability to evoke an atmosphere that makes his works so eternally captivating. The Chagall Committee has kindly confirmed the authenticity of this work. PROVENANCE Countess Claudia de Maistre, Paris; Madame M. Coquiot (widow of art critic and collector Gustave Coquiot), Paris.
