CEZANNE Paul (1839-1906)
Signed autograph letter addressed to Eugène Jules MONTFORT Paris, June 11, 1898, 1 page and a half in-8 in ink on squared paper, envelope with autograph address preserved. Unpublished signed letter addressed to the young art critic and publisher Eugène Jules Montfort (1877-1936) who, as a writer and poet, made his literary debut two years earlier with the poem Sylvie ou les émois passionnés. In 1903, Montfort launched the magazine Les Marges and participated in the publication of the first issue of La Nouvelle Revue française in 1908. The letter mentions Joachim Gasquet (1873-1921) who served as an intermediary between Cézanne and Montfort. Joachim Gasquet was the son of Cézanne's childhood friend, Henri Gasquet (who died in 1906). "I am in possession of the literary work that you kindly sent me through Joachim Gasquet. I will have the greatest pleasure to read it and when the opportunity arises, please allow me to talk with you about the things of Art that interest us so much".
