César FRANCK (1822-1890)
Autograph musical manuscript, Chanson du Vannier, [1889]; 4 pages in fol. of a bifolium (35 x 27 cm). This composition for small two-voice choir or duet with piano accompaniment, written in 1889, is the last of the Six Duos for equal voices that can be sung in choir with or without piano accompaniment (Enoch & Costallat, 1887-1889) [CFF 170], in G minor, 3/4, based on a poem by André Theuriet (published in Le Chemin des bois): "Brins d'osier, brins d'osier, Courbezvous assouplis sous les doigts du vannier"... First draft manuscript in pencil, with some corrections in black ink, on 18-line Lard-Esnault paper, each page organized in 4 systems of 4 staves, 66 measures. Franck wrote in pencil the title "Choeur" in large letters in the middle of the music; the title Chanson du Vannier was written later in blue pencil. This is the very first draft, which will be developed later by six measures of piano introduction.
