VALÉRY Paul (1871-1945)
L.A. and MANUSCRIT autograph, Prangins Thursday[1939], to Mrs. Jean VOILIER; 4 pages in-12, on 2 letterhead cards of the Priory of Promenthoux, Prangins. Letter to his mistress. He stayed with the Beghins where he met the former owner of the Château de Béduer that Jean Voilier had just acquired: "He talks about the family's castles and finally mentions, in brackets and negligently, the sale of Béduer, without specifying the name of the buyer. I was waiting. But nothing came"... He has attached an amusing manuscript entitled Sermon for the Feast of Love, a pastiche by BOSSUET evoking the condition of "those women of our time, free and wealthy, beautiful, and no less daring than beautiful, who get drunk on the speed of their tanks, the variety of their desires, the ease with which they find satisfaction, in a time wonderfully made for them, which has unleashed them"... Two typed letters (with envelopes) are attached, one evoking the absence and image of her lover, the other announcing her departure for Prangins with this autographed addition: "No time to complete a small watercolour for you".
