To be compared with the Seven Works of Mercy (Wood; 78 x 109 cm.) by Frans Francken II kept at the Munich Museum, signed and dated 1630, the version reproduced here presenting several variations both in the figures and in their arrangements (Cf. Ursula Härting, Frans Francken der Jüngere, Die Gemälde Mit kritischem Oeuvrekatalog; n° 273, pp. 307 & 309 - Luca Verlag Freren 1989).
A copper repeater (55.2 x 72.4 cm.), attributed to Frans Francken II, went on sale in London (Christie's, 19 May 1989, No. 144), as well as another more recently painted on panel and signed (45.8 x 65.4 cm.) with the same hurdy-gurdy player and, again, many variations (Sothebys' 06 July 2017, No. 108).
