A. LEMONNIER (19th century) Seated bishop holding a book with the Savoy coat of arms. 1858. Oval enameled porcelain plaque. Signed and dated right in black. 16.2 x 12 cm (view). A few scratches. Oval frame in molded wood (hole) and brass strapping. According to the coat of arms on the book, held by the prelate, this could be the portrait of Monseigneur BECHEREL (1732-1815), constitutional bishop of La Manche (1791-1801), then bishop of Valence (1802-1815). We would like to thank Mr. Alexis CHOPIN, head of the Diocesan Archives of Aix en Provence and Arles, for his help in identifying the subject of this plaque.
