ENGLAND Rectangular snuffbox, with rounded corners, in silver (925 / min. 800) gilded, with guilloché decoration and two gadroons chased with flowers. The hinged lid is decorated with scrolls and fleurons as spandrels, and the base is darkened with oval slabs of Egyptian dendritic brown jasper. The lip is chased with foliate scrolls and a shell. The reverse of the lid engraved with a dedication "The Gift of A Most Affectionate Friend". Goldsmith's hallmark: WR. LONDON, Lion passant and letter date [t] for 1834. Reign of William IV (1830-1837). Exempt from hallmarking because made before 1838 (art. 524bis du CGI paragraph a). Gross weight: 180 g. - 30 x 80 x 60 mm. Wear, scratches.
