Around 1949, Georges Jouve produced a series of stocky vases based on the theme of the bull, which he chose to spell in Spanish with a touch of humor. This Mediterranean-inspired motif evokes Picasso's stays in Vallauris at the same time. Jouve followed this trend, developing an original decorative technique he called "décor serviette". Before firing, a plate of moist clay decorated with an incised motif is applied to the body of the vase. Form and ornament are harmoniously combined, giving rise to a work of great unity.
