Léopold GEST (1938) Mirror, circa 1970. In patinated hammered iron, with a circular frame on a shaft with a circular receptacle, fitted with a hay cutter in the upper part. H. 80 cm. His first metal creations were born of fragments salvaged from the rural world. Discarded farming tools are cut, assembled and given a patina according to his inspiration, transforming themselves into lamps, mirrors or sculptures. These compositions, close to the spirit of the ready-made, mark the starting point of an artistic approach in which steel gradually asserts itself as his preferred material.
