A silver (950) sugar pot with a round body, swollen at the shoulder, with repoussé decoration of rocaille cartouches, resting on four small feet with leafy attachments.
Two heart-shaped side grips with shell-shaped attachments.
The domed lid, molded and decorated en suite, topped with a fretel formed by a flower on five star-shaped leaves.
On the reverse of the lid:
Goldsmith's hallmark: Mathieu BREMOND (1717-?), a long-time journeyman goldsmith in his father's workshop, did not register his Master's hallmark until 1752 in Marseille.
Marks of Jurande [coat of arms 176?] perhaps 1768 or 1769 (?) and of Charge [canon] and of Décharge [fleur, on molding] of the sous-fermier for Marseille for 1768-1775, and of a crown [unidentified] on the molding.
On the reverse of the bottom of the body:
Goldsmith's hallmark: André MARTIN, received Master in Marseille in 1765.
Jurande marks [coat of arms 176?] perhaps 1768 or 1769 (?) and a snake [unidentified] badly insculpted twice.
Both parts repunched with the gros garantie and premier titre hallmarks at the RODEZ office [12] in the period 1819-1838; and finally, very late, in Tunisia with the petite garantie hallmark for a titling of "800/1000ème et au dessus" [Maure's head], in service from 1942.
Total weight: 518 g. - H. 12.5 cm.
Modification to the reverse of the fretel attachment. Lid closure to be revised.
Scratches, a few knocks, notably to the lid rabbet and to the feet, three of which are distorted towards the inside.

For the two unidentified hallmarks, please refer to "L'Orfèvrerie en Provence au XVIIIème siècle", Musée de Marseille & Ed. A. Barthélemy, Avignon, 2005, for the one with the Serpent (p. 232, n°149 porte-huilier) and for the other with the Couronne (p. 235, n°151, sugar pot).
