FRANCE, late 19th century Manufacture d'Armes de Châtellerault. Light Cavalry troop saber, model 1822, modified 1883. Three-prong brass hilt, marked "A 9978". Fusée sheathed in black leather and brass filigree. Single-edged straight blade with two hollow sides and two partial gutters under the flat back, signed by the maker and marked "Tmé 1883" and dated "7bre 1883", counter-edged tip. Iron scabbard with strap and ring, with barely legible "11..." number. Blade length: 87 cm - Total length: 104.5 cm. In mint condition; some wear and a few knocks; old restored fusée leather, some missing watermarks, some old oxidation and stains on the blade; scattered rust stains on the scabbard.
