FRANCE, Second Empire (1852-1870) Manufacture Impériale de Châtellerault. Troop mounted rifleman's saber, model 1854. Four-prong brass hilt, hallmarked, numbered 1291. Fusée sheathed in brown leather and twisted brass filigree. Straight, single-edged blade with four hollow sides, rounded back signed and dated "8bre 1854" and engraved "Caraber Mle 1854", counter-edged tip. Two-bracelet, two-ring iron scabbard numbered 267", symmetrical stinger. Marked. Blade length: 99.6 cm - Total length: 119 cm. As is; scratches and knocks, some on the scabbard; tarnished brass; some stains and oxidation on metal parts.
