FRANCE, FIRST EMPIRE (1804-1815) Cuirassier "latte" saber, An IX model. Brass hilt with four branches and slightly curved plate. Oval cap cut into braces. Worn hallmarks. Spindle sheathed in brown leather with brass filigree. Straight, flat-backed blade, marked "1804 (?)" and stamped "M*" on the heel. Small counter-edge at the tip. Sheet metal scabbard, with two wide filleted bracelets, two rings, and small lyre-shaped sting, to model (blade slipping). Blade length: 96.5 cm - Scabbard length: 98 / 98.5 cm - Overall length: 115 cm. total length: 115 cm. As is; scratches and bumps; missing fuse leather; oxidation on blade and scabbard.
