LADY'S DESKTOP in veneered and solid mahogany, molded, varnished, with two long sides, one straight with two rounded lateral projections, at the base of the legs, and the other with rounded corners, opening with two LARGE drawers in the waistband and a pivoting pen tray on the right, and resting on four tapered and fluted legs on two registers. Stamped J. PAFRAT under the front crosspiece; Jean-Jacques PAFRAT, Maître ébéniste in Paris in 1785. Louis XVI period. Gilt bronze trim (keyways and sabots), burgundy gilt leather and a later lock. 75.5 x 99.4 x 53.6 cm. A few scratches, rubs, small knocks, cracks and chips, some restorations, notably to the back, the veneer and two leg ends; a few tears in the veneer at the ends of the front crosspiece, and under the leather, due to work on the top panels.
