FRANCE, Third Republic. Cuirassier troop helmet, model 1872-1874 Nickel-plated metal helmet shell, visor and cap, with brass bands. Green leather lining. Headband adorned with a pomegranate on two branches of laurel leaves and crest decorated with gadroons and leaves, and an embossed brass Gorgon head. Black mane with central braid, red plume and marmoset. Leather chinstrap straps and brass scales. Modern wolf-tooth inner cap. No markings or maker's name. Olive missing. As is; wear, a few scratches and bumps; some oxidation.
