As "General of Artillery", Buonaparte gives this "Instruction" (for the preparation of the Italian Campaign). "Thou shalt command 6 reserves, all of which are intended to follow columns which are working towards the same expedition, but which will often divide in their march". Each of these reserves is detailed, with its number of cannon, cartridges, flints... "Thou shalt see to it that they are placed in the Monaco park in such a way as to be able to march without getting in each other's way"...
