Round barrel, then with thunderbolt sides, with engraved and nielloed "Ioh Andri Kuchenreiter" band, with punch featuring a horseman. Smooth. Cal. 15 mm. Sight. Walnut shaft with horn-reinforced nose and grooved stock, with thumbpiece carved with a Phrygian cap on a lictor beam, against a background of flags. Molded iron oval pommel and cut-out iron trigger guards. Screw-adjustable trigger shank. Wooden ramrod with horn tip. Barrel length: 25 cm - Overall length: 40.5 cm. Scratches and knocks from use; hammer damaged and missing; a few cracks and small chips to the wood and horn, the latter showing signs of eating; general oxidation. Johann Andreas KUCHENREUTER or KUCHENREITER (1716-1795), belonged to a dynasty of harquebusiers residing in Rastisbonne, Bavaria. He was active in the second half of the 18th century.
