ANGLETERRE, Londres, fin du XVIIIème siècle
Parquet clock with rectangular case, on a pedestal with four corner feet, in walnut (?) stained mahogany style, and with a resinous back, the leaf framed by two quarter fluted columns, and a table with recessed molded corners.
The movement cabinet has lateral glass panels, a molded basket-handle cornice, resting on two fluted columns and opening with a shaped glass door.
Ring-shaped brass dial with fleur-de-lis hour markers, engraved and blackened Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes. Silvered grained center with seconds dial at 12 o'clock and day window at 6 o'clock.
Brass plate adorned with applied motifs in gilded metal, such as the spandrels with four allegories of the seasons and two chimeras with dolphin heads and foliage framing a circular medallion engraved with the watchmaker's name "William JOURDAIN, London".
Eight-day key-wound movement, later modified, with two weights and lead-filled brass sheet pendulum. Bell chimes.
Reign of George III (1760-1820).
H. 225.5 cm - Width 56 cm - Depth 27.8 cm.
Scratches, bumps, a few chips and cracks, old restorations and small indentations; the backs have been reworked; the lock, back and door hinges have been modified.
Movement in need of revision, as the second hand turns too quickly, and the [S-N] striking mechanism is missing.

Several watchmakers bearing the first and last name William JOURDAIN are listed as practicing in London throughout the 18th century.
One of these, active between 1780-1800, could be the maker of our movement.
