Marie-Nicolas PONCE-CAMUS (1778-1839) Portrait of Rose-Catherine BADIN, widow of PARRON, in a blue dress, seated in an armchair, in front of a window overlooking a landscape with the rear façade of Château de Lascanne. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower left "Ponce Camus pinxit anno 1813". On the back, handwritten note identifying the subject and indicating his date of birth "September 24, 1744". 91.5 x 73 cm. Wear to the pictorial surface, small edge chips; old restorations, with patches and a wide reinforcing strip at the bottom, on the back. Gilded frame in molded wood and molded plaster, decorated with palmettes and scrolls (wear and gilding, a few accidents and missing parts). A deed of exchange dated October 7, 1833, between Rose Catherine BADIN and Jean-Baptiste CONFAIS, owner living in the hamlet of Les Mordants, commune of Saint-Ouen-Marchefroy, presents her as "owner of Château de Lascanne, Saint-Ouen" and as "widow of Dominique Pierre Joseph de Parron, former Field Marshal of the French Army, residing at rue de Buffault Faubourg-Montmartre n°12" [AN/MC/DC/XLII/38], partially confirms the information on the back of the painting. Château de L'Ascanne, in the commune of Saint-Ouen-Marchefroy, Eure-et-Loire, no longer exists. However, a drawing of its front facade, very close in its distribution, in reverse, to its rear facade, present on our painting, is reproduced on page 28 of the Document de synthèse, produced in 2015 by the Bureau d'Etude B.E.-A.U.A. de Tours, at the request of the municipal council of this commune.
