Santiago RUSIÑOL (1861-1931) Autograph manuscript signed, La Nuit de l'Amour; 96 pages small in-4. Manuscript of the unpublished French version of this "lyrical drama in one act" by the Catalan painter, with music composed by Enric MORERA (1865-1942). The Catalan version, La Nit de l'amor, premiered at the Romea theater in Barcelona on January 20, 1905, and was published in Barcelona the same year. Léon Daudet, to whom the manuscript was given by the painter, wrote: "Santiago Rusiñol, playwright and novelist, knows how to choose and treat subjects that are in keeping with his nature. He brings to this choice a lofty wisdom, a balance that is like the fixed, solid axis of his dazzling inventions. La Nuit de l'amour, a tragic and lyrical scene from the night of Midsummer's Day, [...] and so many other dramatic works, stand out from all contemporary Spanish production for their unparalleled natural grace, simplicity, passionate warmth and melancholic gaiety. Others write for a living. Santiago projects his personality, incorporates the spectacle of the world and enjoys this to-and-fro". Enclosed: A neat copy of the Catalan version (46-leaf sewn notebook); and 2 copies of his album Jardins d'Espanya (Barcelona, Can Thomas 1903), one with a.s. dispatch to Léon Daudet.
