FÉODOROVNA Alexandra, impératrice de Russie, née princesse Charlotte de Prusse (1798-1860) Beige leather glove, edged with a white leather border with two small buttons, once owned by the wife of Emperor Nicholas I (1796-1855), bears the trace of a Russian manufacturer's stamp on the inside. This precious historical souvenir is accompanied by an autograph letter signed "Tara", 3 pages, in-4°, text in French, explaining the glove's origin: "Madame, since 1860, this glove has been in an album of souvenirs. I can't tell you enough how pleased I am to entrust it to you. You understand the cult of the past. It was on the very day after the painful news that, in Tsarskoe Selo, the faithful Madame Rohbeck gave me this glove worn by your grandmother, Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, who, like Princess Charlotte of Prussia, had been so particularly kind to my mother that, as long as I have a glimmer of memory, I shall treasure it most deeply. Passing on to younger generations the respectful affection I had contracted when I was not yet seventy-two. Please believe, Madam, that I shall keep it until the death of your devoted and respectful Tara". Stains, tears and foxing. Provenance: Offered by the former owner to a member of the Romanoff family, descendant of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia, living in France, most likely Grand Duchess Victoria Feodorovna of Russia. Autograph letter signed "Guy de Beaupré", addressed to his grandfather, Gustave de Reiset (1821-1905), dated October 10, 1896, 3 pages, folio, text in French. Interesting letter in which the author recalls the highlights of the Tsar's visit to Paris from October 5 to 9, 1896. Text: "Voyage du tsar Nicolas II en France, 5 octobre 1896. To my dear Bon Papa from Reiset, I went, with my grandparents from Reiset, my father and my mother, to see the arrival of the Tsar of Russia in Paris, at the home of the Baroness du Mesnil, who had invited us to lunch. The autocrat emperor of all the Russias is now France's only ally, and it was as a friend that the whole country welcomed and celebrated him. At dawn, soldiers formed a guard of honor as he passed from the Muette station to the Russian embassy, where he was staying. Accompanying him were the Tsarina and their only child, Grand Duchess Olga, who had been sent to sleep and rest after her long journey, as she was not yet a year old. The appearance of the Champs-Elysées was superb, every house decorated with flags in the national colors of both countries, a huge crowd on every balcony, in the windows and in the streets, cheering them on as they passed. As soon as the procession appeared, the repeated cries of "Long live the Tsar, long live Russia" were heard joyously from all sides, and nothing untoward came to disturb this 1st day of jubilation! The second day was devoted to the laying of the foundation stone for a bridge which will bear the name of Alexander III, in memory of the current sovereign's father. After this ceremony, the emperor attended a session of the Academy and went to the mint, where a medal was struck in his honor. The 3rd day was taken up with a trip to Versailles. Enclosed is a birth announcement in the name of Guy de Beaupré, dated October 13, 1885, with envelope. Stains, folds.
