Louis JOUVET (1887-1951) Handwritten letter on a pre-stamped letter-card with serrated edges from Louis Jouvet sent from Rethel (Ardennes), addressed to his "cousin", Aline Bordas dated July 9, 1905. 14 x 11 cm. Small lack in a corner. "My cousin It is useless to tell you how much I was pained during these long days that I have just spent between a wound which did not heal and the fever of an examination. It is with regret and joy that I write these few lines today to inform you that yesterday I passed my philosophy exam at the Sorbonne (compare A Conte's classification of the sciences with those of H Spencer). I have hope, on Tuesday morning, if you have not received anything, it is because I will fail. - Your silence showed your displeasure. Why cousinette? Am I a big, indifferent and banal cousin? In that case I will endure this forced silence? - Unfortunately, it was only on June 28 that they stopped bandaging me twice a day and it was with my arm still wrapped in swaddling clothes up to the wrist, my hand smeared with iodine dye that I appeared yesterday at the Sorbonne. The time and the means to write to you had missed (sic). Today I will not be long because you must understand that I must be tired waiting for at least a word on it.I send you my always sincere and always affectionate friendships."
