Robert DOISNEAU (1912-1994) Meeting of 4 autograph letters, signed to Jacques and Marie Hélène CARTEAUD. January-May 1993; 7 pages in-4, with an envelope. Letters addressed to the male model of his famous photograph "L'Hôtel de Ville et les amoureux". JANUARY 11, 1993: "I am not used to hostility and these last days I have been troubled by a kind of ingenious machination around this picture whose difference has been miraculous. Why this one when in my boxes there are about 500.000 pictures; perhaps it illustrates the symbol of a happiness wished by our contemporaries". Then he quoted a poem by Prévert: "...The little second of eternity // where you kissed me // where I kissed you // one morning in the winter light." MARCH 14, 1993: "Habit makes one endure a situation unimaginable in the days of both our youth when life was improvised every morning to get through the trappings of the occupation for example." EASTER MONDAY 19 [93]: "I'm not here to talk to you about City Hall and lovers...the meeting with Ernest Pignon Ernest in a bistro at the Gare de Lyon he photographed me to then make a panel for the theater in Le Creusot." MAY 21, 1993: "I work sluggishly...a lot of chores that eat up my days." "The Kiss of City Hall" is a famous black and white photograph taken in 1950. The two protagonists, theater students: Françoise Delbart (née Bonnet) and her boyfriend Jacques CARTEAUD. The photograph having gained a huge success, Françoise Bonnet claimed 100.000 F of complementary remuneration as well as a percentage on the commercial profits. Jacques Carteaud, refused to join this approach refusing to "transform this photographic story into a story of money". On June 2, 1993 the court of first instance of Paris rejected the three plaintiffs. Françoise Bonnet put in April 2005 her photograph, in auction where it was adjuged 185.000. Attached the suit worn by Jacques CARTEAUD, on the famous photograph.
