Jehan RICTUS (1867-1933)
Autograph manuscript signed " JR ", Le Bel Enfant, with L.A.S of sending, Paris 27 December 1928, to Léon DAUDET; title and 5 pages small in-4, and 3 pages small in-4 (fold marks).
The title-dedication page refers to the death of Philippe Daudet: "I have copied for Léon Daudet the attached Poem, in order to thank him for the praise he has given me in his Paris Vécu and if possible, to console him a little for his great Pain. - To a Father who lost a Child a Father who did not have any and to whom the "Mouïse" forbade to have any ". "How sweet, how beautiful/to see,/in the evening,/in some modest family,/the Beautiful Child that one undresses "...
In his letter, addressed to Brussels (where he was in exile), he thanked Daudet for his praises in Paris vécu; this could help him out of his embarrassment: "at 61 years old, I still have an extremely difficult life". His book Le Coeur populaire was overwhelmed by the events of the war: "It is the old destiny of the true Poets to be always little fortunate and unlucky". He wished Daudet the end of his exile for 1929. "And if the King ever comes back, I will beg you to ask him for a pension for me"...
A photograph (by P. Christidès) with a bill a.s. of sending: " For Léon Daudet my most recent photo made in 1928 "...
