Alphonse DAUDET (1840-1897) Autograph notebook, Lise Tavernier; in-12 (17 x 11.5 cm) of 72 leaves, original purple cloth-backed boards. Sketchbook and workbook of the play Lise Tavernier. Lise Tavernier, a drama in five acts and seven tableaux, was created at the Ambigu-comique, on January 29, 1872, with Marie Laurent in the title role, without great success, and published the same year by E. Dentu. The action takes place in Toulon in 1816. Lise Tavernier, a defrocked nun, watches over a treasure, buried in the ruins of her former convent, and coveted by several people. Unfortunate enough to be locked in a vault, Lise dies in a flood of the Rhône. The notebook is filled with a small, tight handwriting, in ink, with some pages in pencil. After an initial summary of his play, Daudet writes a detailed synopsis of each of the five acts of his play, then entitled La Défroquée; the heroine is named Soeur Sainte-Rose. Then, under the final title Lise Tavernier, he wrote a new synopsis of the five acts. The inside covers are covered with drawings in graphite.
