HUGO Victor (1802-1885) [AF 1841, 14e f].
L.A.S. " Vor Hugo ", Paris " rue de Vaugirard " July 2, 1825, to François RAYNOUARD, perpetual Secretary of the Académie Française; 1 page in-

Curious letter refusing tickets to a session of the Academy.

Hugo had asked Raynouard for tickets with his signature which "could serve me as a passport for the privileged entrance. Not receiving them, I presume that these privileged entries were removed and that Mr. Raynouard did not take notice of this request of mine. As neither my father, nor my wife, nor I intend to make use of the enclosed tickets, I hasten to send them back"...

One attaches the letter of answer of RAYNOUARD, July 6, 1825 (L.A.S., 1 page and half in-4 with vignette and header, address; and autograph draft of this same letter), which explains that these tickets were indeed those for the places of the center: " I had made to be pleasant to you all that the circumstance allowed me "...
