L.A.S. "Des Molets Pre de l'Orate", Paris May 4, 1727; 2 pages in-4 (tab hiding some letters).

Letter evoking the death of Newton and the turmoil caused by the Unigenitus bull.

"It is only too true that Mr NEWTON died; I did not know the exact date. M. FONTENELLE is preparing his eulogy for next Saint Martin's Day: we shall see how he will treat the quarrel of this scholar with M. de LEIBNITS on the occasion of the discovery of the new calculations. M. Camusat, as far as I have learned, cannot publish his life of Racine: I believe that it will not appear during the lifetime of M. de Fontenelle, who for his part does not publish that of his uncle M. Corneille, in which he treats the first one very badly. de Malezieu, leading to the candidacies of Bishop Bussy and Messrs. Bouhier and de MONTESQUIEU. The accommodation of Mr. Cardinal [de NOAILLES] has been missed; a memorandum from the priests of Paris to H.E. appears, which is of great force. Various consequences of the letters of seal given on the occasion of the Constitution have also been printed. M. de Soissons has just replied to the two letters of M. de Montpellier; who will not remain long without replying to him.
