JOFFRE Joseph (1852-1931) maréchal de France. L.A.S. "J. Joffre", Paris 16 November 1927, to General Maurice GAMELIN; 2 pages in-8 at his letterhead Marshal Joffre (marginal wetness). He congratulates his friend (and former collaborator, who has just been appointed commander of the French troops in the Levant), for his advancement and for his marriage: "The government has begun to keep the promises it made to you by giving you 'on the official journal' the rank and prerogatives of Corps Commander. Let us hope that it will continue by giving you next year the command of a corps in France. I will see you again with great pleasure on your return to France where you will finally be able to exercise a command of your choice that you so richly deserve " .
