GAULLE Charles de (1890-1970) general, President de la Republique.

L.A.S. "C. de Gaulle", Paris 14 November 1934, to a friend [Jean AUBURTIN]; 4 pages in-8, heading Presidency of the Council. Conseil Supérieur de la Défense Nationale (small slit).

Nice letter on his book Vers l'armée de métier. He read and studied with interest "the very beautiful and overly laudatory article that you plan to devote to the Professional Army in the Revue Hebdomadaire. I am, at present, at your entire disposal to tell you about it in detail. Your judgement and the expression you give it have interested me so much that I have pushed the passion to the point of introducing into your text some technical supplements which I think you will make such use of as you see fit. This gives the whole thing the aspect you will find enclosed, even if you have to throw it in the basket. I accept, without protesting in any way, your high lesson at the end. Perhaps you attribute to my cult of weapons more exclusive fury than it actually has. But that is as it should be. The world is made up of ideas that make up for each other. Without that balance, where would we go? The faster the tank is, the stronger the brake. " He will stop by Auburtin's to talk about it, or ask him to make an appointment.
