LUCE MAXIMILIEN (1858-1941)

Reunion of 15 signed autograph letters, one of which is decorated with an ink drawing, and 3 autograph cards signed
Paris, Rolleboise, 1934-1940, a set of 29 pages in-8 and in-12.
(Stains and wet spots).
A collection of 15 signed autograph letters, one of which is decorated with an ink drawing, 3 autograph cards and 21 autograph envelopes addressed to Charles Thorndike (7), Henri Donias and their wives.
Moving correspondence from the painter and anarchist Maximilien Luce in which he tells his friends about his family life, which was shaken by the mobilization of his two sons during the war: "Frédéric is always in passive defense where he gets bored" or by the sudden death of his wife: "Ambroisine died suddenly the day before yesterday. The poor girl did not suffer".
- 11 signed autograph letters and a signed autograph card addressed to Henri Donias and his wife Élise, between 1934-1939. Luce gives an account of his travels, in
Brittany and in the South, of the time, of the old age that takes hold of him ("I am aging terribly"), and consoles his "dear old friend" of the misfortunes that overwhelm him. The war is also present: "we are flown over by airplanes", but especially their son Frédéric who is mobilized in Haute Vienne and awaits his freedom; in another letter, he works at the Opera and helps his father.
- 7 signed autograph letters addressed to
Charles Thorndike and his wife, between 1936 and 1940. Ask his friend to fetch a
Bouquet of Flowers from the framer's, makes an appointment at the Lipp brewery, invites his friends to visit him, to write him more.
News from the war: Frédéric and Georges are mobilized "I work to avoid thinking about these sad things all the time".
"I don't have much courage at work, but maybe I will. Frédéric is always on passive defence, where he gets bored.
Attached are two autograph letters signed by
Frédéric Luce (son of Maximilien), [s.l.n.d.] and [s.l], 1 January 1
