COCTEAU Jean L.A.S. "Ton Jean", June 17, 1959, to Emmanuel BERL; 1 page and a quarter in-4. About the rejection of a poem by Réalités magazine. "Dearest Emmanuel Things went as planned. Return to the sender with a piece of honey toast - "This magnificent poem would surprise our audience" etc. "couldn't you write 4 to 5 pages..." etc. No. You had to put this poem and his hat in mind - like an illumination. I had stretched the pole, they took it. I was, alas, certain of that. Sad times"... He adds on the back: "I am told that Reality speaks of me as a touch of all talent (sic). Before it was all about genius. I have fallen in rank."
