COCTEAU Jean
Autograph MANUSCRIT[for The End of the Potomak, 1939]; 3 pages in-4 in pencil.
Let's draft for a chapter discarded from the novel about student Dargelos.
These first draft pages, with deletions and corrections, are related to the "Cadence" chapter of La Fin du Potomak (1939), which Cocteau deleted in the 1947 reissue, perhaps for its disturbing side.
The drafts are linked to two sequences.
In the first, we see Dargelos, during the holidays, in Brittany, killing chickens: "He immobilized the beast between his powerful thighs. With wings and screams, yellow and red spasms, he brandished a knife and plunged it into her throat. [Light red blood was pissing everywhere. Beeped] Then he would run to the waves. He jumped in, skinny and dark, splashed with blood. The second shows Dargelos playing the role of Athalia, with "the air of a tiger under his feet"...
